MBC86: Gulfport, MS

MBC86 Wraps Up in Gulfport, Mississippi

The first OMG UNB – CCOM UNH Ocean Mapping course of 2026 has officially concluded! The group gathered at the USM Marine Research Center in Gulfport, MS, for an intensive session. For many participants, it was a welcome week on the Gulf Coast—and a break from winter in the northern states.

An Intensive and Highly Engaged Week

MBC86 was a busy session with high levels of engagement across the board:

    • 50 attendees, including the Hydrographic Society of America scholarship recipient, 5 students and staff from co-host USM.
    • Participants from 15 U.S. states and 3 other countries.
    • 9,400+ miles – the furthest an attendee traveled from Melbourne, Australia.
    • 36 lectures, totaling 1,900+ pages of notes, supported by 100+ animations and demos.
    • 37 hours of recorded lectures and Q&A available to attendees.
    • 66 questions across the new optional daily quizzes, completed by 30+ participants per day.
    • Two networking events, thanks to course sponsors NORBIT Subsea and Kongsberg Discovery.

    Best attendee feedback:

“I got something from just about every lecture to use on my current project next week!”
